University participating in Oshawa鈥檚 Teaching City initiative

The City of Oshawa’s focuses on experiential learning, applied research and innovative teaching partnerships to address urban issues and meet the needs of the community. The 萌妹社区 is partnering with the City on this initiative; other partners include Durham College, Trent University Durham-GTA, the University of Toronto’s Department of Civil Engineering, and the Canadian Urban Institute.

The newest Teaching City project is the City Idea Lab, directed by , Associate Teaching Professor,. The City Idea Lab will provide experiential learning and applied research opportunities; City staff will collaborate with students and faculty to generate ideas for solutions to issues the City identifies. Beginning in May, students will have the opportunity to work with the City to address a range of public policy problems. The lab’s first focus will be to implement the City’s recently adopted .

Faculty members can get involved in the City Idea Lab by supervising a capstone team or practicum student(s). They can also encourage graduate students to participate. As the City Idea Lab grows, faculty members will also be able to teach courses in collaboration with the City.
