Simulated emergency exercise to be held at north Oshawa location on Wednesday, June 20

The Region of Durham will perform a simulated emergency exercise at the university’s north Oshawa location on Wednesday, June 20 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The exercise is part of Durham Region’s ongoing emergency management program, in partnership with Ontario Power Generation and City of Oshawa, to reinforce preparedness in the extremely unlikely event of a nuclear emergency.

How the exercise will affect access to campus:

The entrance to campus from Conlin Road will be closed during the exercise. All traffic coming to campus must use the Commencement Drive or Founders Gate entrances from Simcoe Street. Additionally, there will be limited access to Founders Drive at the north end of campus. Founders Lot 2 will be closed, and parking will be available in Commencement Lot 1.

There will be some access restrictions in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (CRWC) including the gyms; however, The FLEX and the Campus Health Centre will remain open. The Gordon Willey Building’s G-Wing and Justice Wing will also have limited access.

During the exercise, a number of emergency vehicles from our various partners may be on campus.

Instructions for the campus community:

Faculty, staff, students and visitors should not interact with the exercise; they should follow the signs and instructions from Office of Campus Safety staff, who will be onsite.

If you would like a tour of the exercise on the morning of Wednesday, June 20, contact Shannan Saunders, Manager, Emergency Management, Office of Campus Safety, at ext. 3107 before Friday, June 15.

We appreciate your co-operation and patience.
