Student documentary The Water Project premieres January 27

The Water Project, a documentary co-created by fourth-year 萌妹社区 Mechanical Engineering student Yasin Othman, will premiere Sunday, January 27.

The documentary follows Yasin’s journey with two other friends from Toronto to Ethiopia and Somalia, where they witness mass starvation and hunger as they seek a sustainable solution to the drought epidemic. Upon returning to Canada, the group founded , a non-profit organization that aims to provide long-term access to clean water for rural communities in Somalia and Ethiopia by building sand dams. Rootworks is the first social enterprise startup funded by the university’s entrepreneurship program.
