Electrical and computing power outage – Saturday, July 6

The Office of Campus Infrastructure and Sustainability (OCIS) would like to remind the campus community that this year’s power outage for electrical preventive maintenance at the north Oshawa location is scheduled for Saturday, July 6 from approximately 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Please do not schedule activities during the maintenance period. For everyone's safety, buildings will be closed as there is only minimal emergency power available. In addition, there will be no telecommunication or computer service available. This means no employee, student, research or visitor activities can take place at the north Oshawa location.

Faculty and staff should plan their work and make provisions for this outage. If you have a project or research underway that the power outage would negatively affect, and for which no alternative plan is possible, contact Ken Bright, Director, OCIS, at ext. 2532 to determine whether backup power can be arranged.

The power outage will affect cooling systems, meaning much of the university’s information technology (IT) network will be down during this period. Some systems may be able to continue on backup power; however, this depends on how the day goes, and cannot be guaranteed. If your research project requires continuous computing/power, you should consider options that can sustain a 12-hour outage. If this is not possible, contact Reem Ali, Manager, Technology-Enriched Learning, IT Services, at ext. 2654 for assistance in planning.

For your advanced planning, the next scheduled electrical maintenance at the north Oshawa location will occur on July 4, 2020.

Thank you for your patience and assistance in preparing for this service disruption.

For more information, contact Lorrie Hennig, Finance and Administrative Officer, OCIS, at ext. 3620.
