Transition/relocation ceremony for Student Life and surrounding buildings
Despite a chilly, rainy morning on May 3, Indigenous Education and Cultural Services led a transition/relocation ceremony for the Student Life Building, as well as surrounding buildings, in anticipation of their . The intent of the ceremony was to ensure things are done in a good way and no one gets hurt during construction.
A group of 12 Student Life staff members gathered in a circle outside of the Student Life Building, starting in the east, for a smudging ceremony. The university’s Traditional Knowledge Keeper Rick Bourque spoke to warn creepy crawlers, flyers and small animals that their home will be disturbed, and to bring good energy for what is about to happen. The group proceeded to walk around all of the buildings that are being relocated, while Rick continued to smudge each corner of each building.
