Updates to ancillary fee administration

The Government of Ontario recently introduced a new policy allowing post-secondary students to opt out of select ancillary fees.

Being a member of the university community is about more than just attending classes. Ancillary fees support the university’s Student Union, as well as important services and resources on campus that enhance the student experience. Opting out of them may affect some of these services.

The Office of the Registrar (RO) has developed a communications plan and has updated the following pages on its website to ensure students understand the impact of opting out of these fees

Summary of changes to ancillary fees

  • Students who choose to opt out must do so by Day 10 for the Fall and Winter terms, and Day 5 for the Spring/Summer term.
    • Opt-out deadlines:
      • Fall – Wednesday, September 18, 2019
      • Winter – Friday, January 17, 2020
      • Spring/Summer – Friday, May 8, 2020
    • Students who choose to opt out must do so every semester after they have registered.
    • Once a student opts out, they cannot opt back in. They can choose not to opt out for the next semester.
    • The total amount a student can opt out of per semester is $31.21.
    • The process to opt out of select ancillary fees is separate from the process of opting out of the Health and Dental plan.
