2019 Undergraduate Research Awards recognition event

On August 8, the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation hosted the 2019 Undergraduate Research Awards Recognition Event to congratulate 萌妹社区’s 37 2019 Undergraduate Research Award winners.

The annual Undergraduate Research Award competition saw many deserving applicants, highlighting the breadth of exceptional student research talent at Ontario Tech.

Award recipients engaged in 12 to 16 weeks of full-time summer research activity under the supervision of an Ontario Tech professor. They gained valuable research experience while receiving financial support from either the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Undergraduate Student Research Award or the Ontario Tech Student Training Assistantships in Research Award.

The event featured a keynote address from Denina Simmons, PhD, Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Aquatic Toxicology and Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Science, whose talk explored the value of creativity in research. Farhan Ghaffar, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow and Instructor in Ontario Tech’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, also presented a talk on novel wireless communication solutions, addressing real-world problems in blood sterilization systems, wearable electronics and autonomous vehicles.

Awardees recipients had the opportunity to network with the Ontario Tech research community, generate cross-faculty exposure and build on the university’s growing culture of innovation and discovery.

Congratulations to our 2019 Undergraduate Research Award recipients!
