Dr. Janette Hughes recognized as one of Queen’s University’s Top 50 in 50 alumni

Queen’s University recently named Janette Hughes, PhD, Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Technology and Pedagogy and Professor, Faculty of Education, one of its Top 50 Influential Alumni in 50 Years. Dr. Hughes graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Education in 1988.

Dr. Hughes has collaborated on research in Canada, Finland and the UK and is currently working on an international project with the . She has published more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals, refereed more than 30 conference proceedings and given more than 100 refereed conference presentations. She is the author of The Digital Principal, a book that discusses how education leaders can encourage a technology-rich environment that meets the needs of teachers and students. She is also well known for her commitment to infusing social justice and equity in her teaching and research. Her research areas include critical digital literacies, language and literacy, maker pedagogies, secondary school English pedagogy, and women and non-dominant groups in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) education.
