Indigenous Education and Cultural Services to welcome guest speaker Jason Baerg – November 14
In recognition of Louis Riel Day (marked in Ontario every November to recognize the tragic 1885 execution of Métis leader Louis Riel in Regina, Saskatchewan), Indigenous Education and Cultural Services will welcome a Cree Métis curator, educator and visual artist Jason Baerg to speak on campus Thursday, November 14. Baerg will talk about how a number of profound Indigenous knowledge keepers and storytellers have influenced his artwork.
As a creative visual artist, Baerg pushes new boundaries in digital interventions in drawing, painting and new media installation. His recent international solo exhibitions include the Luminato Festival in Toronto, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia and the Digital Dome at the Institute of the American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His recent curatorial projects include exhibitions with Toronto's Nuit Blanche and the University of Toronto.
Baerg graduated from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and earned a Master of Fine Arts from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He is currently Assistant Professor in Indigenous Practices in Contemporary Painting and Media Art at OCAD University.
