Scam of the week: Black Friday and Cyber Monday alert

As the holidays approach, fraudsters go into scam-overdrive mode. They’re out to get rich on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the busiest online shopping days of the year.

What should you look out for?

  • There are thousands of fake online shopping sites out there that look just like the real thing. Don't fall for them. Make sure the site you go to is the real one. Type in the address or use your bookmark; do not click on links in emails with special offers.
  • Watch out for emails or texts notifying you that you received a package from FedEx, UPS or the U.S. Mail, and that request your personal information. Don't enter anything.
  • Don't download fake mobile apps that promise big savings, and be very wary of online discount coupons. Think before you click!
  • Only use your credit cards online—never your debit card. If you suspect you have been scammed, stay calm and call your credit card company, cancel the card and get a new one.

Happy holidays!
