Participate in the Invasive Phragmite Pull event to remove damaging plants from campus – June 20
Invasive phragmites (European Common Reeds) are plants that cause damage to Ontario’s biodiversity, wetlands and beaches. They outcompete native plants for water and nutrients and release toxins from their roots into the soil to hinder the growth of and kill surrounding plants. They also provide poor habitats and food supplies for wildlife (including several species at risk).
Join members from the Office of Campus Infrastructure and Sustainability in pulling out phragmites and clearing our campus of these invasive plants.
If the plants cannot be pulled out, participants will trim them, which will hinder their growth (if done so on a regular basis).
Event details:
When: Tuesday June 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: West Colonnade and storm drain pond (meet at Avenue of Champions by the storm drain pond)
