FBIT Professor and Canada Research Chair gives keynote address at Toronto Public Library expo about Trustworthy AI and chairs conference on Autonomic Computing
Dr. Peter Lewis, Canada Research Chair in Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Associate Professor, Faculty of Business and Information Technology, recently gave a keynote address at the Toronto Public Libraries 2023 Digital Expo.
During his keynote, Dr. Lewis spoke about various forms of AI, including large language models like ChatGPT and AI-based predictive tools such as those used in business and health care, and explored how people decide whether and when to trust them. Dr. Lewis also explored the dangers of AI systems that present in a way that leadpeople to believe that they are more competent than they in fact are. Dr. Lewis highlighted research on trustworthy AI at Ontario Tech, particularly concerning bias and fairness, explainability, and routes to expanding the self-awareness and social intelligence of future AI systems.
At another event, Dr. Lewis served as General Chair and co-host of the Fourth International IEEE Conference on Autonomic Computing and Self-Organizing Systems Conference (ACSOS) held in Toronto.
