The Office of Campus Safety (OCS) is committed to promoting a professional, respectful and safe campus environment. We believe safety and security are the responsibility of everyone on campus.

You are our key partners in reducing opportunities for incidents/crimes to occur. Being mindful of yourself, those around you and your surroundings can truly make a difference.

Reporting suspicious behaviour

If you have concerns regarding your personal safety, or if you observe suspicious behaviour that may have a negative impact to the campus or near vicinity:

• On campus: Contact Campus Security at ext. 2400 or 905.721.3211
• Off campus: Call 911 or 905.721.3211

Campus safety resources and programs

• Alertus is the university’s emergency mass notification system. If you haven’t done so already, download and install the free Alertus Mobile App on your mobile device to ensure you receive notifications in the event of a high-priority, active threat on campus. Installation instructions are available on the university’s Alertus web page. Note: Please ensure your settings align with the .
• Code Blue stations are red poles with blue lights on top, located in parking lots, alongside footpaths, and within the Campus Library at the north Oshawa location. Each pole has a button you can press to gain instant contact with Campus Security. Once notified, Campus Security will send a guard to your location and, if required, dispatch emergency services. When in doubt, push the button!
• Downtown faculty, staff and students are encouraged to request a security escort when needed to accompany them to their car or other campus location. To request an escort, contact Campus Security at Charles Hall in person, or call 905.721.8668 ext. 5616.

Emergency response planning

Each year, OCS and emergency service partners including Durham Regional Police Service, Oshawa Fire Service and Durham Emergency Medical Services engage in training exercises and simulations to review and enhance the university’s emergency prevention, mitigation, response and recovery processes. These efforts reinforce our ongoing commitment to maintaining a secure and resilient campus environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
