Risk management guidelines for the holiday season

As we approach the holiday and winter season, the Office of Risk Management (ORM) is sharing safety guidelines for all university community members. These guidelines can also be found on the ORM website.

We all love to decorate our workspace to fit the holiday season. We encourage university members to celebrate safely and respectfully during any holidays/celebrations while on campus. Always observe safety first when decorating for the holidays or any celebration. View the university’s Guidelines for Office Decorations to learn more.

We understand that your office and/or workspace can get a little cold. While space heaters may be viewed as a temporary solution, they can be inefficient at providing temporary heating, and may pose a severe fire hazard in the workplace when misused. Space heaters are one of the leading causes of fires and carbon monoxide exposures, causing about a third of all structural fires. For general information on portable space heaters, and to learn more about how to choose and properly place them in your work area, view the university’s Guidelines for Portable Space Heaters on Campus.

If you have any additional questions about office decorations and/or portable space heaters, contact orm@ontariotechu.ca. Have a safe holiday season.
