Participate in Let’s Talk Day events in support of mental health

Let’s Talk Day (Wednesday, January 24) is dedicated to moving mental health forward in Canada by promoting awareness, reducing stigma, and providing access to education, so everyone can get the help they need.

Stigma is one of the biggest hurdles to overcome for anyone struggling with mental health. When we talk about our mental-health struggles, we take an important first step toward changing stigmatizing attitudes.

According to the Mental Health Commission of Canada, most adults spend more of their waking hours at work than anywhere else. Encouraging conversations about mental health in the workplace is important. ÃÈÃÃÉçÇø’s Wellness at Work team recently introduced additional and to support employees’ mental health and well-being.

How can I participate in events related to Let’s Talk Day?

  • Register for on Wednesday, January 24 from noon to 1 p.m. In this online session, you’ll learn about the drawbacks of being connected 24/7 and the benefits of unplugging.
  • Visit our Mental Health information tables on Thursday, January 25 for giveaways and details on how to access a wide range of available resources:
    • Charles Hall, Atrium from 10 a.m. to noon.
    • Shawenjigewining Hall, Atrium from 1 to 3 p.m.
  • Join mental wellness author and researcher Dr. Robyne Hanley-Dafoe for the session on Wednesday, January 31 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The first 50 employees to register and attend this virtual workshop will receive a copy of Dr. Robyne’s new book, Stress Wisely.

    • Mental Health First Aid
    • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

Where can I get help?

Through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), you can now book a counsellor directly from the platform. A phone option, 1.844.671.3327, and chat (texting feature) are available.

Note: If you do not yet have access to the TELUS Health One Platform, you’ll receive a separate email invitation today. Once you have access, you can invite family members (e.g.  partners/spouses and/or dependants) to sign up for and use EAP services.

How do I book a counsellor online?

  1. Log in to the platform (online or using the mobile app).
  2. Follow the step-by-step booking instructions found in the TELUS Health document.

You can also find a list of confidential supports on the university’s web page, including the newly added from MindWell U, a virtual mental wellness education training platform.
