FSSH Professor invited to participate in Frontiers of Science meeting on Artificial Intelligence

Dr. Isabel Pedersen, Professor, Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSH), and Director of the , was recently invited to participate in the Frontiers of Science (FoS) meeting on Artificial Intelligence (AI) hosted by the Royal Society of Canada and the Royal Society (U.K.). The event began on February 12 and will conclude Thursday, February 15.

Following a high-level Royal Society (U.K.) visit to Canada last May, both groups agreed to organize a 2024 FoS multidisciplinary meeting on AI in Canada, focused on early- to mid-career researchers. This will be the second FoS between the two academies, which previously co-organized a FoS meeting in Whistler, B.C. in 2016.

Objectives:

  • To bring together future leaders in AI from the U.K. and Canada for networking and relationship-building, with a view to exploring potential collaborations between the researchers and between the countries.
  • To strengthen the relationship between the Royal Society (UK) and Royal Society Canada.
  • To connect early-career researchers from both countries with senior scientists, policymakers, and other key stakeholders in Canada, and to explore opportunities to contribute to public policy.
