Women in Research Council and Mitch and Leslie Frazer Faculty of Education’s NET Lab to co-host Dr. Kaschka Watson for a community class – March 25

According to experts in equity research, anti-Black racism has been deeply embedded in higher education policies, principles and practices. Decades of systemic anti-Black racism have maintained enduring impacts that continue to stifle equitable progress toward racial justice for Black students and the Black community. In this 90-minute community class titled Doing the Work: Addressing Anti-Black Racism in Higher Education, Dr. Kaschka Watson, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Education, Brock University, challenges students, teachers, instructors, professors and education administrative leaders to take intentional actions that will disrupt and dismantle anti-Black racism. The class creates the space and opportunity for participants to examine concrete strategies and best practices to be considered when tackling anti-Black racism in higher education. It also provides critical reflection questions and next steps challenge participants can engage in to address anti-Black racism that will strengthen future possibilities for Black students, their sense of belonging, well-being, and academic success in higher education.
