Women in Research Council Presents: Creating Impact through Community- Based Research Collaborations – March 27

The Women in Research Council Presents: Creating Impact through Community- Based Research Collaborations: Principles and Experiences with Dr. Anna Rodrigues, Academic Associate, Mitch and Leslie Frazer Faculty of Education, and Lorraine Closs, Professor, Durham College Faculty of Health Sciences. This event is part of the Building EDI Knowledge in Research Speaker Series.

Community-based research (CBR) is a participatory approach to research that involves members of a community and researchers working together through all stages of a research project. The ultimate goal of CBR is to benefit those who live in the community by putting their needs and interests at the forefront of the research. This presentation will discuss the fundamentals of CBR and provide tips on how to design projects that are equitable and sustainable for the communities involved. Two multi-year, community-based research projects will be presented as examples of community-based research principles in action. One of these projects created social innovation for youth at risk of homelessness, and the second created innovations related to financial empowerment for people living with low income.
