Getting ready for in-person summer camp

萌妹社区’s Continuous Learning Department, with the Mitch and Leslie Frazer Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, is proud to offer fun, week-long summer camps for children and youth to explore their curiosity.

The below information is provided to help campers get ready for their registered 2024 in-person summer camp program!

  • Location & parking

    Our 2024 in-person summer camps take place at the north Oshawa campus: 萌妹社区 (2000 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa ON).

    Your registered camp may occur at one of two locations:

    Shawenjigewining Hall

    Location 1: Shawenjigewining Hall

    *At this location, camper drop-off/pick-up is located in Polonsky Commons ( Campus map)

    Parking

    Free parking is available for ONE HOUR (from the time of entry) in the Founders Lot 2 parking lot (Campus map; ) each day, during camper drop-off and pick-up.

    Free 15-minute parking is available in Founders Lot 3 (Campus map)  during camper drop-off and pick-up.

    Need to reach your camper during camp hours?  A contact number will be provided for each location in a "Getting Ready for Camp" email communication about (1) week prior to the registered camp. 

  • Pick-up & drop-off times

    Regular camper drop-off: 9 a.m. Staff will be available at 8:45 a.m.
    Regular camper pick-up: 4 p.m.

    Before care is available from 8 to 9 a.m.
    After care is available from 4 to 5 p.m.
    Before/after care must have been arranged during camper registration.

  • Pre-camp communications

    Detailed information on where to drop-off (and pick-up) your camper will be shared in a "Getting Ready for Camp" email communication about (1) week prior to the registered camp. The Summer Camps Team will contact registrants primarily by email using the parent/guardian email address(es) provided at the time of registration. 

    Missing camp information?

    Please ensure emails from summercamps@ontariotechu.ca are not redirected into your junk and/or spam email folders.

    Yahoo and Rogers users especially, please check your email spam and/or junk folders on a computer or laptop as some devices (and apps) apply additional spam and junk filters.

  • What to bring

    Campers should wear weather appropriate clothing, outerwear and comfortable, closed toed shoes. No sandals and flip-flops please!

    Bring a labelled bag or backpack with:

    • sunscreen (spray is easier for staff to assist)
    • nut-free and banana-free snacks and lunch
    • extra clothes (example: pair of socks)
    • a hat
    • a labelled re-usable water bottle
    • tissues
    • a litter free lunch
    *Snacks and lunch are not provided.
    Important note: We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. We do our best to make sure campers leave with what they brought, but this is not always possible. We suggest that you label camper items and leave valuables and money at home.
  • What NOT to bring

    Please do not bring the following items to camp:

    • open-toed shoes, sandals or flip-flops
    • scented items or sprays (all camps are scent free)
    • valuables (example: money, cameras, phones, tablets, etc.)
    • over the counter and prescription medications* (see camp policies)
    • any food with bananas or nuts, or that "may contain" bananas or nuts*
    • litter (we encourage a litter free lunch where possible)

    *These items may be taken away and given to the parent/guardian at the end of the day.

Camper health & wellness

2024 Summer Camps programming is subject to 萌妹社区 policies, directives, and health and safety protocols.

  • Camper wellness

    Campers who become unwell while attending camp may be sent home.

    Campers who are feeling unwell are asked to stay home.

  • Air quality
    Concerned about air quality?

    Continuous Learning monitors the  for outdoor activity recommendations.

    We encourage campers to bring a labelled refillable water bottle to camp to ensure adequate hydration. Refillable water stations are available to campers upon request.

  • Prescribed medication(s)

    REMINDER: if a camper requires prescribed medication(s) during the course of their registered camp, parents/guardians are required to contact the Campus Health and Wellness Centre (CHWC) to make arrangements for a health care professional to administer the prescribed medication(s). An appointment prior to camp may be required. Please contact the CHWC at least two weeks before the start date of the registered camp.

    Where applicable, we ask that parents/guardians please complete PART 1: NOTICE OF PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS PLAN and PART 3: CAMPER/PARTICIPANT DETAILS, PARENT/GUARDIAN SIGNATURE of the 2024 Summer Camps to advise camp staff of the day(s) and time(s) your camper will need to visit the CHWC for their pre-arranged prescribed medication(s) plan. Please bring the completed form on the first day of each registered camp. Camp staff will walk with your camper to the CHWC on the listed day(s) and time(s).

  • Epi-pens,聽inhalers and other similar devices

    Campers are responsible for carrying their epi-pen, inhaler or other similar use item at all times. We suggest this be carried in a labelled belt pack. Campers must show the camp counsellor where their epi-pen, inhaler or other similar use item is located.

    Where applicable, we ask that parents/guardians please complete the PART 2: EPI-PEN/INHALER/OTHER ADMINISTRATION AUTHORIZATION and PART 3: CAMPER/PARTICIPANT DETAILS, PARENT/GUARDIAN SIGNATURE of the 2024 Summer Camps  prior to camp. Please bring the completed form on the first day of each registered camp.
